I am a teacher at Caroldale Learning Community and have had the pleasure of spearheading our event with ShareFest for the past two years. I have worked with Kyle Agonia from King's Harbor Church both years, and his group is an amazing example of the wonderful people that volunteer for the ShareFest Workday. Our school community has so looked forward to it and parents have consistently asked the date for this year's event.
Today was a shining example of what amazing things happen when people from any and all walks of life come together for a common good. Through the support of ShareFest, Kyle and his group from King's Harbor Church painted murals, cleaned classrooms, cleared out rain gutters, power washed buildings, swept, lugged, and gave our school a much needed return to spic and span. We had over 250 volunteers join the event today and it was an amazing sight to see parents, students, community members, staff, as well as high school volunteers from all over the South Bay come together and work until our campus truly shined!
The most amazing transformation of the day was our staff lounge. Ginger and a dedicated crew of workers truly took a room that was dingy and run-down and turned it into a place of warmth and light. They repainted the entire room, hung new blinds, added tablecloths, resurfaced a bulletin board, added new tables, new electronics, and thoroughly cleaned the room from stem to stern. By the end, our staff lounge now resembles a hip cafe and eatery instead of a hodge podge of mismatched furniture, awkward decor, and drab paint. Our staff is going to be truly amazed by what was done. I do not think anyone had any idea of the vision with which this project was planned and executed. It has given us a place to call our own that reflects peace, warmth, and acceptance. What more could teacher's want?!
We are so lucky to have received the support and dedication of both Sharefest and King's Harbor Church. Our school is struggling to get by with less money and fewer staff members. Their willingness to step in and help out provides a much needed boost to our entire school community! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
