A Report on the Workday at Edison Preschool

// A guest blog post by Megan Cassette, Director of South Bay Adult School. Edison Preschool is operated by and located on the campus of the South Bay Adult School.

The view from the playground of Edison Preschool through the chain link fence used to be of an alley that stores two industrial size trash dumpsters.  Not a pretty sight. When our students wanted to ride tricycles, the space was so limited that teachers served as traffic monitors to protect other children from being hit.  The picnic benches used for outdoor activities had to be removed from the playground due to peeling paint and splintered wood.  Sharefest changed all of that.  Thanks to a wonderful group of Sharefest volunteers, staff members, and Edison families, we now have freshly sanded and painted picnic benches, beautiful redwood planters overflowing with brightly colored flowers and vines trained to climb the new, charming redwood lattice work attached to the chain link fence. Best of all, our students have a wonderful concrete tricycle path that curves through the grass, under the shady tree and back to the blacktop.  Sharefest Workday transformed our playground into a delightful, safer place for children and has provided us with a tricycle path that furthers our physical fitness and healthy living goals.

Thank you Sharefest from Edison Preschool!

Our sincere thanks to Barnhart Balfour Beatty for providing the needed skills and resources to complete the project!
